The World Resources Institute (WRI), in collaboration with
USAID's AfricaLink electronic communications support initiative,
is looking for an intern to work at WRI this summer. About two-third of the
time will be devoted to supporting AfricaLink, and one-third to GIS research
and development.

                         SCOPE OF WORK

1. In collaboration (via email and telephone) with AfricaLink's
implementing agencies in Africa, track the development of
AfricaLink partner electronic networks in Africa.

2. For each network member's new Internet access account,
register the Internet address in an AfricaLink database, and
initiate electronic contact to confirm access. Provide regular
updates to USAID research staff on the connectivity status of
African networks with which they are partnered.

3. For each of AfricaLink's partner networks, prepare and
maintain a roster of connected network members using data from
the AfricaLink database. Work with each network's information
manager in Africa (via email and telephone) to develop suitable
text and graphics for a WWW page describing the impact of
Internet on that network and including the roster of connected
network members.

4. Maintain AfricaLink's publicly accessible data on the state
of Internet access in Africa, and respond to public requests for
information.

5. In collaboration with the AfricaLink Advisor, prepare a
written and audiovisual report to USAID on the impact of
AfricaLink in improving the quality of work of USAID's partner
networks in Africa.

6. In collaboration with WRI staff, carry out research and
development of GIS-based maps, statistics, and indicators for
Africa, Southeast Asia, and other developing regions.

                        REQUIRED SKILLS

1. Experience using database and/or spreadsheet software.

2. Experience using email and the WWW.

3. Familiarity with GIS software.

                         DESIRED SKILLS
