As to volcanic activity in the British Isles, I don't think so.  There is
evidence of basaltic flows in Ireland, with the Giants Steps in the north and
the basalt rock outcropings, but these are very ancient, and probably out of
the range of human residence in the region, let along memory.  As for
England, it is not known for that kind of activity.  I could be wrong, but I
don't think so.
