Some other type foundries have done some very nice printed sample books --- Jeremy Tankard's TypefaceOne and TypefaceTwo come to mind, and there were the lovely books Emigre did for Mrs. Eaves and Whirligig (even printing some of them letterpress from photopolymer plates), but none of these seem to be available as .pdfs.
