What is the context of the word, Desmond?
'Arsa' could also mean 'he/she said'.

Modern Irish 'ársa' translates 'ancient' and DIL gives a corresponding
Old Irish word 'arsaid' ("old, ancient, aged").
I am not aware of a single word or phrase in Irish which encompasses
both the islands of Ireland and Britain. Liz Gabay
