The below is a report from MCI on behalf of their contractors MKI
on the loss of service caused to HEAnet's inter-continental circuit on
7th December 1999:
"MKI while performing routine maintenance checks on the 48V rectifiers and
batteries, accidentally hit the switch on the power block which was not
sufficiently. This resulted in an 8-minute power loss to the cabinet. This
due to a lack of due vigilance by our installation engineer and the problem
discovered on job completion checks and was rectified immediately.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this outage and we are in the
process of taking measures to ensure that it does not happen again."
