I am working on an art quilt involving Celtic symbolism and I had looked at
that page you cited when researching the history of the Red Hand a/k/a Bloody
This symbol is ancient, used by both sides, although it may be offensive to
some because its frequently used by the UVF now.
The legend is the Red Hand comes from the O'Neill's of Ulster, although I
suspect its far older. Supposidly, the O'Neill wanted to win a boat race which
required the winner to touch the shore, so he cut off his hand, and threw it
onto shore from his boat, thereby winning the race.
Also, the Tree of Life seems appropriate to me
I've long been fascinated by the Green Man -- does anybody really know what
he's about? Seems to me it must have to do with Life or Abundance.
