Just for kicks, I took a look at the account of Colum cille's death
in Adomnan's life. Adomnan several times refers to angels coming to get
Colum chill in clouds of light or, in one case, like a pillar of fire. But
Richard Sharpe (who edited the edition I'm looking at) suggests that Adomnan
was highly influenced by Evagrius' Life of St. Antony. It certainly seems a
far cry from the plea for rescue that one finds in the ACC.
