This question is specifically for experienced pipemakers. I have an F# that
is flat relative to the other notes in the chanter - particularly noticeable
in the first octave. My pipemaker (John Pedersen) has suggested 3 "fixes,"
but did not state his preference. I want another opinion before I do
anything as radical as additional drilling / filing. Please tell me which
is best, and tell me the potential drawbacks of each.
The three possibilities:
1) use a larger bit to enlarge the F# hole
2) use a rattail file to file the upper inside edge of the F# hole
3) spot ream the bore on the lathe
I appreciate any input!
