and must contain
- author(s) name, affiliation and brief biography
- contact information (email and telephone)
- a brief (max 250 word) abstract of the paper and/or presentation
- which workshop the submission is for (see below)
Contributions must fit into one of the following categories.
I - NEW MEDIA WORKSHOP: Content, Communities and e-Commerce
ESS invites pioneers to share their experiences in creating, operating
or managing
- New Media Content: web-zines, arts, culture, science, news sites.
- Communities: mailing lists, chats, and other on-line communities
- Electronic Commerce: business which include an on-line presence
for sales, transactions, advertising, support, or any core activity
that are related to Africa, aimed at, or created by Africans. The
goal of the workshop will be to not only learn from each other, but
also to begin building a network of on-line creators, professionals
and entrepreneurs in order to take advantage of synergies and
strategic complementarities.
In the last couple of years, the African online community worldwide
has grown to include the full and evolving range of media and services
offered by the Internet. Internet content and services are all about
the whole of many efforts being greater than the sum of the parts, and
this workshop hopes to leverage the same principle to help
cyber-Africans shift into the next gear.
II - TELECOM REFORM WORKSHOP II: Rethinking Ethiopian Telecoms
Continuing the efforts of ESS Telecom 96, 97, and 98, this workshop
will bring together a wide range of expertise and opinions on
telecommunications technology, policy, infrastructure planning,
economics, as well as service providers, academics, and other
professionals.
This year's workshop will focus not only on
- proposed solutions (including equipment, software, and services)
- practical experiences and lessons
- surveys, statistics
- analytical studies
but also on establishing a direct exchange of ideas between key
decision makers and experts in the field worldwide.
