The following is the first sentence from the purpose statement of
"Old-Irish-L is a forum for discussion of the language and literature
of early Ireland. The main emphasis of the list is on Old and Middle
Irish, but Primitive (Ogham) Irish and Continental Celtic (Gaulish,
Celtiberian, etc.) as well as modern Celtic languages are also
discussed when this material is relevant to Old Irish."
The last phrase is perhaps the most important. If the discussion
of Iranian culture or archaic Greek letters is somehow directly
relevant to Old Irish language or literature, then it's in.
Otherwise, it's too tangential for this list. We haven't always
adhered 100% to this guideline, but mostly we manage. I'd like
to invite anyone new to the list who would like to get a better
idea of our "list culture" to review the archives at
