Thanks to Philippe, Mike Hogan, and John Kerr (and persons yet to speak) for
all the information on -- and corrections to my post on this tune, now
identified as "The Lansdowne Lass" by Josie McDermott. Strange how a titled
tune with a known composer can be so widely spread as "unknown," but Irish
music seems to be filled with similar stories.
Philippe mentions 1985 as the date Seamus Egan recorded "The Lansdowne Lass,"
but Bulmer & Sharpley Vol. 4 (which includes the version listed as "Mick
O'Connor's") has a copyright date of 1974. So Josie's visit to Lansdowne (and
composition of the tune) would have had to be in the early 1970s. Does that
sound right to those who know?
