Dear Mike,
I don't think I got a response to the below message--did you receive it?
The context is an Internet capacity-building project for human rights groups
in Nigeria. We are nearing the date when identifying a reliable provider is
becoming important to us (we expect to have the computers delivered by
March). At this stage, the cities in Nigeria we are concerned with are
Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kaduna.
Any assistance is appreciated. I copy the message to AFRIK-IT with hopes
that someone else on the group might also have ideas.
I would be interested to hear experiences people have had with NITEL,
LINKSERVE and other providers in Nigeria.
Cheers,
Tobias

Hello Mike,
Thanks for the note, and for the information. The current plan, being worked
out by our colleagues in Nigeria, is to use a commercial provider known as
LINKSERVE for all the sites. Those not in Port Harcourt or Lagos would have
to dial long distance to Lagos. I do not know for sure why they are leaning
away from Nitel, unless Nitel is that much much more expensive. The rest of
their proposal seems sensible, so I don't as of yet have any reason to doubt
their judgment here. If you have any information to the contrary, or might
be able to put me in contact with somebody who might, I would appreciate
hearing about it.
It's nice to hear from you generally, I seem to recall back when I worked
for FEWS that your name came up fairly regularly in discussions about
Internet in Africa. Good to know you're still around and productive.
Cheers,
Tobias
