I heard a pin drop the other day. Eberhard, where are you? 8*)
I'll be travelling to Lusaka for the annual SADC Consultative
Conference the week of February 7, where this year the theme is
"SADC in the Next Millennium: The Opportunities and Challenges of
Information Technology". Also making a brief stop in Nairobi plus a
few days in Kampala.
I'm not entirely sure how high-level government meetings work, so it
will be interesting to witness the Lusaka meeting.
In Uganda we'll be taking an intensive look at our remote wireless
connectivity experiment. A research center without telephones has
for many months been linked for email to the Internet via HF radio.
Cost management has as expected proved to be the most intractable
problem -- the world assumes cheap connectivity and sends huge file
attachments which the recipient in this case must pay a high price to
receive. We'll explore options.
