Nice idea, but you are quite right, it looks like an early offering.
It looks very clutterered (actually it plain doesn't look nice) and
thus doesn't really convey much information to the viewer.
If you took static data the thing is already outdated.
I would suggest you do something on the lines of xtracreoute or what
John Quarterman from the Matrix did (with GMT) in line with Mark
Lottor's approach of the `domainwalk' and trace all top level domains
in Africa. Then you "forge" the originating point in the US to be one
single one on the map to unclutter the map.
