I am pretty sure that you *can*, in fact, post as a
non-member. I know that others have done so, and that's
also how Spam gets through.
You will not know when people respond to your questions
though, until you check the archives. Sometimes responses
take a while. And sometimes the archives take a while.
Still, it does seem as if this may be the best option for

Quite a few people do an arbitrary delete of unread
messages, choosing to open only those with interesting

I don't remember this option, and it's not in my saved
info. The only mention of "summary" I found was as a
command that gives you a membership summary for the lists
being served by a particular host. Rather than a summary of
a particular list's postings.
