While it's understandable that you're wanting to make contact with
like-minded people, and show them your tunes, attaching MIDI files is not
really the way to do it. Your letter was 1254 bytes; with the MIDI file it
was almost 50,000 bytes. That's a big difference, and there will be people
who will be rather angry at such a huge file coming down their phone
lines. Remember 1) many people do not have or wish to have MIDI set-ups,
and 2) large files are not friendly.
There's a system which many people use on this list called abc notation
(there's a website which explains it (at www.gre.ac.uk/~c.walshaw/abc/ I
think). It's simple to pick up, and conveys tunes simply; really ideal for
a mailing list such as this. There are also shareware programs available
which can convert files to and from MIDI and abc format.
