I played with Josie on several of his regular visits to the Trades Club
sessions in Sligo Town in the late Seventies. He occasionaaly brought the
sax for fun. He was well able to play at pace and fitted in well with the
other instruments having the good taste not to let the volume dominate. The
spirit of his playing is excellently represented by Seamus O'Donnell's
approach in the At the Racket appearances and recording.
Those further interested in sax playing with traditional instruments might
look at old recordings of the Donal Ring Ceili Band from north Cork who had
a very strong sax presence.
