Could you tell us a bit more about Josie McDermott and his sax playing.
The liner notes by Robin Morton on Darby's Farewell mention Flynn's Men,
a band with fiddle, guitar, drums and Josie singing and playing flute,
whistle and sax. They played "all kinds of music, country and western,
old time, ceili, ... . Morton also talks of McDermott's love of jazz.
Apparently, from the notes, the trumpet was his first instrument, then
the sax, tenor and alto, and only later, the concert flute.
Did you ever see him play in situations like these? It's only moderately
fascinating to try and think of the sound.
