I do not know where your live but how about the local library as a resource.
They must have a Music encyclopedia with the information. Also, I know there
are web sites that would fill your mind(smile). One is refdesk that is filled
with lots of info. Unfortunately, I can not remember the rest of it, since it
is soooo easy, I can find it if you want or someone else on the list may have
Also some libraries have internet connection. As a thread in the haystack
the book I have is called Music Lovers' Encyclopedia, copyright 1903,
reprinted 1954, by Doubleday and CO, it has a list of charts Dance rhythms,
Greek Modes, Church Modes. (The used book store syndrome) I am sure it has
been repinted since 1954 or else something better has taken it place, NEW
always being better(smile).
The scale/mode discussion has really helped me to understand this article more
