Hello list members,
After reading responses for about 2 weeks, I finally feel qualified to place a
J Patrick's, in Baltimore has anywhere from 0 to 5 flutes, and a couple of us
who sit on the side to join in every now and then. The pub is located at 1371
Andre Street. On the way to Fort McHenry (the intersection before the fort) is
Andrea street, turn left, and go 1 block. Session is Thursday night, starts
between 9:00 and 9:30, and is run by Peter Fitzpatrick (spelling?) There is
live music a J Patrick's every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, if you just wish to
Some times The Cat's Eye, in Fells point (Baltimore) has good Irish music (for
listening) as well, but it ids hit-and-miss
There is also a session on Tuesday nights at Mick O'Shea's Pub, 328 North
Charles St. in Baltimore. I have not been to that session, as it is a bad
night for me during the summer months. I plan on visiting it soon, though, and
will try to let you know what I learn. You do not hear much about it, though.
Nanny O's, was covered by John. It is closer to Beltsville, which I think of
as being close to the DC Beltway
You may want to look into other area's of Washington if you wish to listen as
As for a flute instructor, I could not recommend Rob Greenway highly enough. I
feel that I have come very far since I started taking lessons with him. If you
only get a chance to take one lesson, here's your instructor!
Kieran O'Hare teaches flute in Baltimore, as well as the Uilleann Pipes, but it
can be difficult to set a lesson up with him. As well as being a great piper,
he plays a mean (nad LOUD) flute.
Chris Norman lives in Baltimore, and also teaches, if you are so inclined. I
had a lesson from him Tuesday, and he praised the things I have learned from
Rob. (Note that Rob will teach you a more "Strictly Irish" style.) Chris is
also performing a free show at 3:30 on September 27 at the Second Presbyterian
Church (410-889-6819 for info) so he will be in town when you are here.
That covers everything Iknow of on the Baltimore end of things. hope it's not
