That depends on your instrument (fretted strings/piano vs
fiddle/woodwinds/voice) and how badly your playing has been spoiled by any
previous classical training :-). Bagpipes (both uillean and Scottish)
aren't even tuned in a tempered scale. I don't think any trad Irish
musician (unless restricted by their instrument and unless playing with a
band) would stick to a tempered scale, as classical musicians do.
