I have been scratching around recently in the Legal, Accounting
and Audit areas of the burgeoning Y2k Web.
And a lot is going on. "More Y2k Links" is overflowing.
But the main players are of the course the multinationals
and Professional Societies in the USA, Canada and Europe.
The Big Players are very active on the seminar circuit, and
are doing a lot of good work.
Now, I am a small business and only use individuals to
do my tax and legal work. To my shame, I know that
my own service suppliers are not up to speed (I tend to
avoid them in case they ask me for money).
Usually there are only one or two people in these small
firms. I have seen no sign of any activity to support this
type of enterprise.
And there are definitely differing requirements between
countries. In SA for example, the Roman Dutch law
puts a completely different spin on Y2k Legal issues.
So procedures relevant to the US and UK simply do not apply.
We are slowly coming to grips with these issues,
but disseminating the results is difficult.
One of the gleams in my eye is to provide Web pages
and Lists to service local professional associations.
Contacting these is a problem. They tend not to be
Web aware either.
There is obviously a need to create awareness in this sector.
Not only to keep their internal systems going, but to service
their clients, who are also (presumably) small businesses.
Anybody have any information, ideas or suggestions?
