I think it is premature to say what the majority of the people in any region
want. That's the reason there is going to be a referendum! Anything we say
now is guesswork. Divided or not, Ireland belongs to its citizens and
finally, they have a chance to speak.
In America, we had a civil war, which fortunately was resolved, as least
beyond the fighting stage, long ago. It was, and is, a very different
thing from the struggle in Ireland. The only thing I see in common is that
too many people died.
Finally, if you are going to talk to Irish people about anything, be
prepared for an argument. We aren't hostile. We just believe that anything
worth discussing is worth discussing well!
