In response to Chris Anderson's note on the lack of interest of IT
professionals on the year2000 issue.....
AS I send this note...I am in Kenya. Our company S.E.I. Group has
continued to do its part in informing the local east african couintries
of the challenges involved with the year2000 millnnium bug. SEI group is
located inAtlanta georgia and I bspeak widely on the Y2K issues...
this week we spoke at a year2000 seminar to bank officials, ggovernment
officals, manufacturing and other sectors....WE were able to use Shell
oiul companby as a model of a company who was past the inventory stage
and into the assessment phase of the y2k effort. We presented on pc
issues, embedded issues, legacy issues, supply chain, specific concerns
for government, military, banking, health and environmental issues....
it was attended by over 100 people.....
the seminar was 2 days....
We think have a format that we can now use in any of the african
countries to inform them of the pending problem and how it could affect
their countries.....FUNDING is definitely an issue to most of the
countries we have visited thus far....WE would like to ask others to
assist us in finding a way that we could fund a road show to every
country on this issue and draw the right audience....we had the right
one in kampala this week and we hope tyo hear more from the government
and the priovate industry community....our purpose is to form a
partnership that helps provide needed information....
