Well said, Jonathan.
While I don't know Dr. Lisse, the kind of comments I've seen from him lately are just destructive. There are a whole lot of approaches to bringing this technology to Africa, and we're all working hard and learning from our collective experiences. I think we're doing a great job.
That having been said, mailing lists are a great way to share ideas and give advice. And while I think we all welcome a good debate and all kinds of opinions, Dr. Lisse should rethink the reason he subscribed to this list. It obviously isn't to give us all the warm fuzzies.
So, in the spirit of keeping this mailing list a *positive* thing, where
people aren't afraid to interact for the fear of getting slammed, I ask Dr. Lisse to consider his postings three or four or five times before sending them. I welcome all the constructive things he has to say. It's not fair of him to ask us to spend time dealing with his nastiness.
And again, these are my opinions, not my employers'.

You know Lisse,
I've been reading your insults for years now. I'm even one of the
MANY who's been flamed. We've never met, but, I've got to think you lead
miserable life. Heaping insults left and right. Everyone I've talked
with thinks so, and a colleague who returned from Namibia not too long
ago reported they don't like you either. Social pariah is the polite
word. Asshole is what comes to mind. Sure, you're aren't out to win a
popularity contest. Perhaps you think you are helping, but, you have
done more to set back networking than anyone I know. People shouldn't be
censored from listserv's, but, I think we should take a vote. If people
agree, you should volunteer to get off. If not, sign me off this damn
thing. When you start bashing Hawkins one minute and then Cochrane the
next, this shouldn't be tolerated. Both gentlemen are fine people. Doing
good work. Something tells me that stethoscope of yours hasn't been
sunlight for awhile - why don't you pull it out and practice some
bedside manner. Of course, after slapping you publically, ala Lisse, I'm
off to Tanzania. Ironically, I'll be delayed in reading some juicy
retort but I'm more interested in hearing from others on the list than
what you have to say. We've heard it all too often.
I should add, the comments are mine alone and not that of my employers
