The Provasoli-Guillard National Center for Culture of Marine
Phytoplankton announces the addition of seven more "Pfiesteria-like"
strains. This brings the current total to 10 strains, and these are
designated CCMP1827-1836. Information about the strains can be found at
our web site.
The seven new strains were collected from sites in Maryland and
Virgina, and all of the collections were made and sent to us by the
Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Four of the strains are from one
collection site on the Chicomacomico River, Maryland. One strain is from
the mouth of the Pokomoke River, Maryland, and two strains are from
Pokomoke Sound, Virginia.
In addition to these strains, we have 23 isolates from the Neuse
River, North Carolina, that are still growing up. If their growth
continues as expected, then at least some of these will be added to the
CCMP in 1-2 weeks. These Neuse River isolates are from sampling stations
at the mouth of Upper Broad Creek, the mouth of the Goose River, Union
Point and at the bridge on Highway 17. All samples were collected and sent
to us by the Neuse River Response Team, North Carolina Department of
Environment and Natural Resources.
If you would like to order any of these strains, please contact us.
