On a whim, I submitted my best non-Latin font (Armenian) to the
most recent Linotype contest (last year).
I wasn't surprised at not winning a prize, but I was shocked
when they contacted me wanting to license it! Armenian!?!
With less than 8 million of us scattered around the globe, it
was a nice surprise.
Although they did take FOREVER to come out with their "Take Type 2"
CD-ROM (which is -as far as I know- a compilation of the fonts
licensed as a result of the contest), they were in constant cordial
contact with me, making sure all was fine.
Financially, I don't expect much, but I wouldn't blame Linotype
for it. Although the royalties and contract seemed reasonable,
I have to say I don't have a very good grasp of the money stuff...
Anyway, they were already jittery about selling something they
couldn't read, so I didn't push. I'm just happy it happened,
and maybe now I have some [small] foothold on the Big Stage:
I have an idea for a Latin font that's on its way from my skull
to my mouse-hand...
