Paul....how do you think you became who you are today? You carry a little
bit of every ancestor you have ever had in yourself! When I grew up in the
Southern United States there was conscious Celtic Influence....Ever heard
Bluegrass music? Ever seen Tennessee Cloggers? Ever heard a person from the
Appalachians speak? (There are some there that still speak a very broken
form of Gaelic). I think there are a few different definitions of what
makes one CELTIC. Let tell you what I feel and believe.
1.) I am an American (My nationality)
2.) I am a American of Scottish ancestry
3.) Racially I am of Celtic Origin...I am not pure Celtic, but then again is
anyone in the 20th Century?
Now...I am not here to Argue with you. What makes one anything can always be
arguable. If you want to have the opinion that because I am an American that
I can't possibly be Celtic then so be it. However I know what I am and
that's all that matters.
I certainly feel that there are certain elitist out there that want to hold
to the belief that if your an American then you lost any culture that your
ancestors might have had. But America is made of many different cultures and
there is a renaissance of Cultural Identity happening here. Do people from
Mexico who migrate to America automatically give up being Hispanic? True
their children are not Mexican but they are Hispanic or Spanish. Does that
also mean that all of the people in America of African origin have lost
their racial Identity? Whether they call themselves Black, Negro,
Afro-American, African-American or what have you they still claim their
racial heritage. America is not a race...it is a country made up of many
different races and cultures.
So believe what you want...that's the beauty of being human!
