I think you're referring to the Synod of Whitby (circa about 664) where,
in addition to changes in tonsure and the timing of Easter (the Celtic
Church preferred to celebrate it on the full moon), the decentralized
Celtic Church was brought under the yoke of the more hierarchical Church of
