9/22: Mali links up to Internet
BAMAKO, Sept 22 (Reuter) - The impoverished West African state of Mali has
hooked up to the Internet, with help from the United States.
Officials said that the link, supplied by state telecommunications company
SOTELMA, targeted a capacity of 80,000 lines by the end of 1998.
The network, which went live on Saturday, will be operated by four private
companies. The U.S. development agency USAID helped set up the link.
