There are lots of other examples where industrial stuff imitates handmade
things ...

A decade or so ago industrial things were hype, until everyone had them.
Now it's just the other way round, only that the industrial process is too
well established to be questioned anymore. Hence none would ever use a
calligrapher for these things (after all, what does it cost to download a
shareware font to play with?).

Washed-out jeans, handwritten ads, oldstyle watches, -- it's an industry of
fake whose aim is to make you forget the real industrial process.
