Can you please clarify whether Homegate also uses the SITA network,
or are they doing something else? I have been using the SITA network
for this for some time now (since before IPASS), and have often
wondered what would be the economics of a US-based call-back system
using state-of-the-art modems. My guess is that the costs would be
competitive if you could get high speeds.
In many locations in Africa, the best speed you get on SITA is 9600.
OK for mail but no good for net browsing. In some locations you can't
get in at all or only rarely (I was in Ghana a couple of weeks ago and
managed to connect only about 3 times in 10 days).
