Dear Africa IT Experts,
I am just writing to express my disappointment at the level of
participation in this group. About two years ago this discussion gruop
was quite active and intrumental in a number of issues. In fact, as a
result of the discussions in the group, I am now back in Ethiopia and
sharing my limited experience with my people.
I thought the more IT grows the more we Africans should come closer to
each other. I know one big problem exists. We can not expect any funding
and support from NGOs and donor organisations to support our activities
in Afrik-IT. They would prefer to fund projects like the Leland
Initiatives, wouldn't they? A project that means nothing to us here in
Africa. Ofcourse why should we expect help or rely on funding, if we are
serious about real development in Africa.
IT, I think is important for democracy in Africa, where free press is
very limited. At then same time, the days of those who make a living in
the name of Africa would be numbered.
I think we should reorginse this discussion group and widen its scope.
