I've been following the discussions about the Morrigu, and the instances of the
images of Maiden, Mother and Crone that have been mentioned. I'm quite new
to all of this so please bear with me, but it strikes me that this has parallels to
the ways in which Ireland has often been personified as a woman, in visual art,
literature and folklore, which include Hibernia or Erin (a young woman, the
Maiden), Mother Ireland (the Mother), and the Shan Van Vocht (the Crone).
Would anyone agree with this, and can anyone suggest a good starting point
for some reading on the MMC? I'm hoping to eventually do research looking at
imagery of Ireland as a woman, and this fascinated me when I first read it.
Hope I'm not going over ground that has been done many times before, but I'd
be really grateful for any comments or suggestions of reading..
