My son, also named Brian, often used to look at me when I got really
revved up about something and tell me to just switch to decaf.
Interestingly, a recent edition of "Chronicle," a nightly TV news magazine
here in New England, dealt with the issue of caffeine. Conclusion: there are
no health risks inherent in caffeine consumption. Some people get a little
jittery, but otherwise it's harmless. Of course, at the slightest sound (like
the book that just fell off my bookcase), I practically jump out of my skin!
They say that caffeine withdrawal is worse than heroin withdrawal. I've never
used heroin, but I can tell you from personal experience that caffeine
withdrawal is ugly.
