While I agree that vegans are quite obnoxious sometimes, I do have to say
that meat consumption(especially red meat) does cause health problems(colon
cancer etc..). One of the biggest reasons is because people sometimes eat
nothing but meat. And while man is without a doubt a hunter(as evidenced by
forward set eyes, logic, and such) the main of his(sorry if his is not P.C.)
diet should be grains, then fruits and vegetables, then meat.(nuts, seeds,
and legumes goes in there somewhere)
I personally love a good half raw steak. But I eat like a vegetarian most of
the time. When I was a teenager though I swear I never ate anything but meat
and the occasional sweet and I felt like s**t all the time. But then I smoked
for nine years too.
I don't know that you could call it asceticism for the twentieth century, as
Neil says. I think Budhists and some others have been vegans for a very long
time. And besides that, I don't think that modern vegans are as likely to be
looking for some divine truth from it.
Just my opinion,
