Roaming in Botswana, 9600 connect with a throughput of 50 messages in
10 minutes. Using the usual formula that's about .67kbps, about
twice the speed of Maputo and half that of Johannesburg. A message
of 1k would cost about 4.3 cents. My 50 messages in 10 minutes cost
I'm thinking this might be a nice solution even for non-roamers,
particularly in places like Malawi or Sierra Leone. Paying $2 per
day plus $5 per month for 50k daily would cost about $55 a month,
not an unreasonable price for an electronic mail account in Africa.
The only requirement really is that the client have a credit card.
That's actually a significant hurdle for some organizations.
