There were a couple of stories regarding tourists in Celtic countries the
other day. In the interest of fair play I'd like to point out that a
certain geographic naievtie is not the sole provence of Americans.
Europeans can also appear foolish when away from familiar surroundings. I
received this anecdote today from an unimpeachable source so I couldn't
help but share it:
A group of visitors from Scotland came into the Wawona ranger station in
Yosemite National Park and said, "Our car is parked at the trail head and
it's been blown up by terrorists."
Though rangers expressed some doubt, the visitors insisted that a bomb
had exploded in their car and that they could see powder residue from the
explosives. Investigating rangers indeed found that a door had been torn
off the vehicle and a powder-like substance was strewn about the
car."They were quite embarrassed when we showed them the bear prints and
the empty flour bag" the ranger said.
