Internet was original built with assumption of trust. Therefore, Internet
is inherently unsecure. The only way to achieve security is to build
Interanets and limit the connection to the Internet with a thick
firewall. Therefore, the level of security is the same wether they are
directly connected or through a common national or regional gateway.
However, direct connection results in extremely high cost at low
utilization and poor reliablity.
