The Internet Society, UUNET, the ITU, and others have agreed to add
new domain names and to restructure the handling of disputes over
domain names and the allocation of domains.

The sole firm in Virginia that allocates domain names in the USA will
have competition. Reuters reports:
> Currently, one firm, Network Solutions Inc., registers addresses
> in most existing top-level domains under a contract with the
> National Science Foundation. Under the plan, up to 28 new
> registration agents will be chosen in a process overseen by the
> accounting firm Arthur Andersen.
