LARGEST PAPER IN IVORY COAST ON LINE!
Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire -- Since last month when the press in Cote
d'Ivoire first appeared on the Internet, Internautes, especially Ivorians
abroad, have demanded the on line version of the largest Ivorian paper.
They no longer have to wait. Since yesterday, the 9675th edition of
FRATERNITE MATIN is on line and available throughout the world.
FRATERNITE MATIN was founded five years after Cote d'Ivoire's
independence. Now in its 32nd year, it prints 50,000 copies per day. It
was the only newspaper in Cote d'Ivoire until the liberalization of the
press in 1990. Now there are almost a dozen daily papers, of which LE
JOUR, LA VOIE, and LA NOUVELLE REPUBLIQUE are also on line.
The online version of FRATERNITE MATIN is made possible by a contract
signed between its Director, Michel KOUAME, and Amolo NG'WENO, founder of
Africa Online and acting Director of the Abidjan office. Africa Online
is an Internet access provider operating in Abidjan, Accra, Nairobi and
soon other countries in Africa.
NG'WENO said, "I am very pleased that FRATERNITE MATIN and eventually all
of the publications of the group Fraternite Matin will be on line with us
... and I know the Ivorians abroad and all those interested in the Cote
d'Ivoire will be appreciative. I'll be able to keep up on what is going
on in Cote d'Ivoire when I move next month to the U.S. to continue my
work from Africa Online's head office there." She added, "I am waiting
until Ivorian and foreign announcers send the on line versions of their
publicity to Fraternite Matin !"
