My name is David M. Wood and I am a student at Kansas State
University. I am double majoring in Music Education and Voice
Performance, and I am a performer and lover of all Celtic music, but
mainly Irish. The love for Irish music stems from my heritage. My
father's ancestor's were second generation Irish and my maturnal
Grandmother's maiden name was Coffee, which derived from th O'Caughey's
of County Cork. I learned of my heritage at an early age and fell in
love the music even earlier.
My favorite performer has to be Connie Dover. A bonus to
enjoying her music is that I am most recently from Leavenworth, Kansas
which is about 20 minutes away from Connie's home in Weston Missouri. I
have seen her many times in concert and have been introduced to her by a
friend who went to high school with her. Her grasp on the natural Celtic
sound astounds me and the music that accompanies her albumns sometimes
send shivers through my body.
I am currently attempting to teach myself Gaelic. It is not
going so well I am sure. If anyone has a source of material that can
help me it would be greatly appreciated. I am also trying to form a
small group to play Celtic music with. If anyone knows someone near
Kansas State University who would be interested, please let me know.
I am also looking for a few other items: A "real" tin whiste, a
full set of uilleann pipes, Irish music for voice and instruments, and
guitar music of the same sort. If you can help it would be fantastic.
I hope to be of some use on this list also, and I plan to
contribute often. Thank you!
