I segued my interest into learning the Irish Celtic language through the
music. I got (still am) frustrated because I couldn't understand the
lyrics. I have a solo Derek Bell CD which is wonderful; I also have a
huge Chieftans collection. It is hard to single out a favorite, but it
think the Irish pipes are my favorite instrument (so beautifully
mournful). There is a piece on "The Celtic Harp" which translates into
something like "Please Don't Awaken Me Because I Am Sleeping" which
makes me cry every time. (Solo pipes piece.) I saw the Chieftans life
in concert in Indianapolis a couple of years ago; an incredible,
wonderful experience. Derek Bell was with them. Did you know he is an
accomplished pianist as well? And, I know Enya is "new age", but some
of her stuff is wonderful, too, and I especially appreciate her because
I play the piano and her music is published so that I can play it.
And, now I have to wrap Christmas presents which I will do accompanied
by the Chieftans Christmas CD.
