While I like nemo's list of Web sites, and hope to see many more, I DO have
fears of western domination. For those of you who have access, I STRONGLY
recommend you read Gibbs, "Lost Science in the Third World," SCIENTIFIC
AMERICAN, August 1995, 92-99. He builds a very persuasive case that
information flow is not neutral and that there are many forces at work in
keeping out information that doesn't come from traditional Western sources.
I think if Africa is going to have a significant presence on the net, it is
going to have to work at providing content, and do so knowing that in every
other medium, African content has been devalued. Turning that around is not
going to be easy.
