Are you talking about amateur radio here.... I am an amateur radio operator
but I am not very active in packet, mostly because it expensive for me being
a student. But I do know a little about how it works.
In the long run packet radio maybe cheaper as there are no monthly or yearly
All packet radio involves is an HF(High Frequency) transciever, a TNC(Terminal
Node Controler), and a computer. Aside from having a station on the other end, \
you're all set. The computer produces the digital text, the TNC converts the
data to some form of a radio wave, and the HF transciever transmits the
information to the other station.
The initial cost of writing a test and getting a radio station licence is not
much (in Canada) compared to paying dues to an internet server.
There is one draw back however, under any circumstances shall a person
transmit data that pertains to business matters on amateur radio.
Excuse if I am wrong here but, when I saw the subject line as:Packet Radio I
automatically thought of amateur radio.
cheers :) :)
