Dear David, Jeff and others,
I agree with David's comments. I don't want to go to the broader issue of developmental aid and its politics. Africa can develop only by Africans. All the international organisations and NGOs could try to help but will never solve the underlying problem. It is upto us - AFRICANS - to deal with our problems. If USAID calls a meeting in Wahington to deal with African development well it is not the
first time. We have witnessed our continent becoming poorer and poorer by the year.
Why should we expect the Americans or Europeans to pay for our
development anyway. One cannot and should not rely on handouts.
Thanks to the internet we are not any more isolated from one another. What we should look for is partnership not donation. Look how many Western companies are
rushing to the far east. Isn't Africa nearer and with more natural resources?
I would like to encourage people like Jeff and Tony and others who are working very hard within their respective organisations to support African development.
What about US ( the Africans)? What have we done for our continent or our
countries? The time has come for us to engage ourselves in constructive discussions and support each other rather than wait for somebody to tell us what to do.
As for as the internet connectivity, or wiring Africa and then what?
