I'm taking the liberty of replying publically to the following enquiry
which was sent to me by a member because it raises two very good points.
>Peter, lots of unsubscribers are spelling it wrong or sending it to
>the wrong place, but is it possible that one of the optional settings
>of the list is set to allow only yourself to unsubscibe members?
No, I just checked. It's still a public list, so anyone can
unbsubscribe themselves, but they _must_ send the UNSUB request from the
address they wish to unsubscribe (obviously, otherwise anyone would be
able to unsubscribe anyone else :-) This is obviously a problem when
someone's address changes.
What happens is either
a. the sysadmins go and change everyone's email address without
telling any of the users (thus without giving them a chance
to unsub their lists first,
b. the sysadmins tell the users but the users ignore it because
they don't understand why it's important (until too late :-)
>I have tried in the past to perform some usual list commands
>(including unsub) and haven't been able to. I gathered that the
>settings to allow members to do certain things were not turned on.
You're on with an address which is the same as your presentation
address, so you should have no problem. If you do have problems,
though, it's important that you fwd me a copy of the error, otherwise
I don't have an icicle's hope in hell of finding the problem. Usually
it's easy to fix.
