SYMPOSIUM IN MAPUTO
INFORMATICS AND DEVELOPMENT
- THE WORLD IN TRANSITION -
The Universidade Eduardo Mondlane invites all those interested to
take part in its second international Informatics Symposium, "Info-
rmatics and Development - a World in Transition".
THE UNIVERSIDADE EDUARDO MONDLANE MAPUTO MOZAMBIQUE.
3 - 5 June 1996.
THE REASON FOR THE SYMPOSIUM
In the last years of the century and the passage into the new
millennium, it is difficult to ignore the achievements of
Informatics and its importance in the modern world, from the
simplest system to the most complex hardware and software.
The Symposium will debate the achievements of Informatics. The idea
is to keep the public informed about the advances and contributions
made by Informatics and particularly to consider the effects of its
arrival in Africa.
The Symposium is organised by the Informatics Centre of the Eduardo
Mondlane University (CIUEM) as leader amongst partners consisting of
the Faculties of Science, Engineering, Agronomy, Medicine, Law and
the Electronics and Instrumentation Centre of the University. The
Mathematics and Informatics Faculty of the Technological University
of Delft, Holland, will also participate as an equal partner.
Specialists in various areas have been invited to contribute
Papers or simply contribute to discussion.
- Informatics. Information systems (IS). Information Technology
(IT). Systems and technologies of local development information.
Services for Information Technologies. Data base systems.
- Computer networks. What they are and what can be done with them.
Internet. Internet in Mozambique.
- Informatics in Education. Primary. Secondary. Technical. Tertiary.
- Informatics in Health
- Informatics in Agriculture
- Informatics in Society. Legislative issues. Cultural issues.
- Informatics in the national economy. The role of Informatics in
trade and industry.
- Policies and Standards. The need for national, regional and

- Informatics and the environment.
THEMES AND LANGUAGE
Papers will be accepted on the above themes. They may be in English
or Portuguese. They must be received by the CIUEM by the 1st April
1996. ((Simultaneous translation will be provided in the Symposium.)
PUBLICATION OF PAPERS
A publication containing the presentations will be distributed to
all those participating.
Those who wish to accept the invitation are asked to send a letter
or the attached Registration Form to the CIUEM before 1st April
1996, with the Registration Fee of 25 USD for institutions and
private persons. Teachers and students of the UEM, free on
invitation. Invitations may be obtained from the CIUEM after 1st
April 1996. Presenters of Papers will not pay a fee.
