There appears to be an ancestor of ours with the first name of Lackey (not
the ggf I first thought). I haven't seen this name before and he shows up
on none of the the census materials I've seen. A cousin remembers, quite
distinctly, hearing talk of him.
I'm assuming that he's a cousin of sorts.
The question is this-----is the name "Lackey" used at all in Ireland as a
first name? Could it stand for something else? Could it be a common
nickname? "Lackey" is used as a surname---the novelist Mercedes Lackey
comes to mind. Perhaps it was used as a first name to honor a branch of the
family surnamed "Lackey".
Oh well, anything helps.
