Dear Jeff and others,
To me the Niger example given by Jeff is exactly one should not do. Generally business dependent on such organisations (AGRHYMET, ICRISAT and NGOs) may not be
sustainable. A simple question, what happens if the French stop funding
AGRHYMET or ICRISAT decides to change location to another country? Or the president changes!!!. I wonder if the guy Jeff mentioned is going to persue his plan.
On this matter I would prefer to go Dr Lisse's way. Start small
If we are talking about email and the internet for the use of the NGOs and the big international organisations to facilitate their activities in Africa well that is NOT going to imporve my father's life.
I am sure a number of the members of this group understand what I mean.
Unrelated to this topic, last Saturday I attended a conferennce on Debt Crisis Network (DCN). The speakers consisted of prominent Africans including the former
president of Zambia (Dr Kaunda). He was also interviewed on British TV. Is anybody aware of the objectives of this movement. Probably I could invite one of the organisers to post something to this group. Just an idea.
